何铁生，作为当代中国抽象艺术十分独特而全面的人物，正以其宽阔的视野、深厚的素养和孤独的实践，逐渐成为当下变化最多、最难以理解的才华横溢的杰出艺术家之一。
他把绘画或相关的视觉艺术活动看作是生命中不可思议或突如其来的体验。在这个体验过程中，艺术家得到启发的一瞬间，便将内心中不期而至的幻象、潜伏于精神深处的感动和对外部世界的表现有机地结合了起来。
何铁生以一种不同于任何他人的方式和形式走向抽象艺术。他的绘画诗意地表现生命，传达着自然的内在精神。他四十岁以后迈入成熟，热衷于连续不断地反复研究离本质最近或更远的主题和形式。除了架上绘画外，在摄影、版画、水墨画、诗歌、散文和小说上均有深入涉猎。
其大量富有东方人文内涵和西方表达形式的作品向我们展现了当代艺术真正的光辉与纯粹。在史诗般的激越与悲怆的绝唱中，令我们体验到历史和生命逼迫心灵的情殇。何铁生的作品以严谨的理性思维和超然的感觉方式，以高度的艺术创作激情和基于自我风格的勇敢挖掘，淋漓尽致地表现了对更深层次的当代文化精神的思考，融汇了大量东西方语义的某些深刻内涵。
当然，他的作品绝不是可以被轻易理解的，艺术可以求真，但真并不就好。艺术就是要观照那些“不可解”、“不可言”的事物，美就美在不可解，妙就妙在不可言。老子说“道不可言”，而孔子则说“不解之为神”，足见艺术的魅力正蕴藏在这“不可解”、“不可言”之中。从他的作品中找不到任何已知的绘画版本。既使不说它的一切都是人们未曾见过的,但起码都是没有被充分表现过的。乍看起来,它们仿佛是费解的结构、是难以分辨的色彩肆意的交织与渲染，但如果我们细看一下就会逐渐发现，这是一个隐藏在昼夜交替中的陌生而丰富的文本与直觉的世界。在他艺术奥妙的迷雾将被吹开的瞬间,出现了令人惊喜的充满幻想、爱和自由的无限风景！
He Tiesheng, as a unique and comprehensive painter of nonobjectivism, has become one of the most variable, complex and excellent artists with his wide view, profound artistic accomplishment and lonely practice.
He considers painting and visual activity of art as mysterious or flash experience of life. During the whole experience, his inspiration suddenly appears in his mind, then, imagination, feeling and expression have combined.
He Tiesheng makes tracks for nonobjectivism with his style. His work manifests life and delivers the essence of nature like a poetry. He became more and more mature when he was over 40. He kept full enthusiasm about both subject and form, which were studied by him time and time again no matter whether they were near to or far from the essence. Besides oil painting, he also involved in photo taking, woodengraving, ink on paper, poetry, essay and novel.
His works possess not only the oriental connotation but also western form, that display the radiance and purity of modern art like a exciting and fervor song, and make appreciators deeply affected by history and life.
