展览介绍

狮语画廊非常荣幸地邀请中国抽象绘画代表性艺术家谭平在上海举办个展。这是谭平继香港狮语画廊个展后的另一种新的方式的综合呈现。

谭平个展“形式力场”(FORM-FORCES)将个人理念直接介入特定场域和空间。他在艺术上把建筑空间、公共环境和生活空间看作是一个有机整体。基于这一整体原则,他并没有把抽象绘画孤立,而是使其更符合空间视觉结构。在一个空间中只展示一幅大画(3米x4米),并在空间与作品的互为关系中凸显了一张画的概念。画中上方以大块的绿色与粉色并置,下方以小块浅蓝色和灰蓝色并列,这些色域之上画出的不确定线条,使色域间形成了连接,产生了画面的溢出感。这种对画与空间之间的建构关系和叙事给观众留下了更多的想象空间。

在狮语画廊374空间,谭平对空间的实用性和使用性进行了解析,把素描、版画与生活空间相结合,让作品存在于空间和家具之中,无形中构成了彼此的关联性。艺术家重新界定了这种贯穿于场域-空间-家具-状态的关系。面对这样一种陌生"状态",如同其绘画过程中所表现出的行动一样,谭平在生活、空间、家具和作品中找到了与人的审美连接点,他以艺术的方式重新定义了“场域-空间-作品”。

谭平对绘画边界的延展,不断在架上、墙面、空间上的观念渗透和扩张改变人的空间视觉经验,建构了一种异样的混合性的空间语言。

It is Leo Gallery's honour to hold in Shanghai the solo exhibition of highly celebrated Chinese abstract art master Tan Ping. Compared to the solo exhibition presented in Leo Gallery Hong Kong earlier, this would be an integrated manifestation of art and space in a new form.

"Form-forces" directly infuses specific site and space with the artist's vision. From the perspective of art, Tan Ping sees the architectural space, public environment and living space as an organic unity, based on which principle he has chosen to align abstract paintings with the visual structure of their location rather than to isolate the two or treat them as separate elements. In an exhibition space, only one large painting (3m x 4m) is showcased, such that the co-dependence and interaction between the space and art piece can highlight the artist's conception behind the work. The upper portion of the painting juxtaposes substantial green and pink while the lower portion shows a combination of light blue and pale blue in small patches. The winding and indefinite lines over the colour zones create connection between them and engender the sense the pictorial space overflowing out of the frame. This constructive relation and narrative between the painting and space allow a vast room for imagination for the audience.

In the space 374 of Leo Gallery, Tan Ping's analysis of the utility and function of space is revealed. He incorporated sketching and oil painting into living space, so the former can exist in parallel with the space and furniture. This naturally constitutes the interrelation among all units, thus effectively redefines site-space-furniture-condition relation. Encountering this novel "condition" which echoes with the performance in his painting process, Tan Ping found the aesthetic meeting point between man and each of the elements: daily life, space, furniture and art pieces. Art as a pivotal device, he has redefined the"site-space-work"complex.

Tan Ping continues to extend the pictorial boundary and, with articulation through the frame, the wall and the space, ceaselessly creates and enriches spatial-visual experiences that challenge ordinary understanding, and this gives birth to a hybrid spatial language unlike any of its kind.

关于艺术家About the Artist
谭平(1960年生于中国河北承德)

谭平,山东烟台人;毕业于中央美术学院版画系;荣获德国文化艺术交流奖学金(DAAD),留学柏林艺术大学自由绘画系,获硕士学位和Meisterschule学位。曾任中央美术学院教授、副院长。现为中国艺术研究院教授、副院长。作品被国内外重要美术馆、博物馆收藏,包括中国美术馆,上海美术馆、今日美术馆、波特兰美术馆、路德维希博物馆、科灵现代绘画美术馆、亚利桑那州立大学美术馆等。

Tan Ping (b.1960, Chengde, Hebei, China)

Tan Ping, family origin in Yantai of Shandong, graduated from the Printmaking Department of China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1984. From 1989 to 1994, he was sponsored by Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) scholarship, and studied at the Department of Free Painting of Berlin University of the Arts and received Master' s Degree and Meisterschule Degree. He was a professor and the Vice President of the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. Currently he is the Vice President of Chinese National Academy of Arts. His works are collected by major galleries and museums in China and abroad, including the National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Art Museum, Today Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, Museum Ludwig, Kolding Museum of Modern Art and Arizona State University Art Museum, etc.

黄笃(1965年出生于中国陕西)

黄笃博士:策展人和批评家。任今日美术馆艺术总监。四川美术学院中国艺术社会学研究所研究员,兼该院美术学系教授。
黄笃1965年生于陕西。 1988年毕业于中央美术学院美术史系。 1991-1992年在意大利博洛尼亚大学学习艺术史。 2004年获中央美术学院美术学博士学位。 2007年完成清华大学博士后项目。1988年至2001年任《美术》杂志编辑。他撰写了许多当代艺术的评论文章,多发表于中国、日本、韩国、荷兰、澳大利亚等国的杂志。他曾受邀参加许多国际当代艺术研讨会,并任多个国际艺术奖项评委:如CCAA奖、瑞信-今日艺术奖、台新艺术奖、日本尼桑艺术大奖、艺术8奖和意大利佛罗伦萨双年展等。

Huang Du (b.1965, Shaanxi, China)

curator and art critic who lives and works in Beijing. Professor at Institute for the Sociology of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, China.

Huang Du was born in 1965, Shaanxi Province, P. R. China. In 1988 he got his bachelor's degree in history of art from Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. During 1991 and 1992, he studied history of art in Bologna University, Italy. In 2004 he received his Ph.D in Science of Fine Arts from CAFA, Beijing, China. In 2007 he completed his Post-Ph.D research in Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.

From 1988 to 2001 he worked as an editor for Fine Arts (Mei Shu) Magazine. Huang Du has published numerous critical articles and essays on contemporary art, mostly on magazines and catalogues in countries including China, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Australia, Spain, Britain and others. As a speaker and jury member, he was invited to participate in many important international art symposiums and art awards of CCAA, The 7th Taishin Art Award 2009, Credit Suisse Today Art Award 2010-2012, Nissan Art Award 2013, Tomorrow: Contemporary Sculpture Award 2015, "Lorenzo il Magnifico" of International Award of The 10th Florence Biennale 2015 and Yishu 8 Prize-China 2015-2016. He was invited to contribute an essay on Creation Space: Antony Gormley for the catalogue of States and Conditions, White Cube, Hong Kong, 2014.
