放轻松——动漫谬想的秘密花园

“我认为创作动画就是在创造一个虚构的世界。那个世界能抚慰受现实压迫的心灵,激励萎靡的意志,能化解紊乱的情感,使观者拥有平缓轻快的心情,以及受到净化后的澄明心境。”借用宫崎骏的恩泽宣言,来阐释美术馆为何继续筹办银川第二届国际动漫展的序言。

一九八零年代以后,日本流行文化热在亚洲持续蔓延及至中国崛起;而这个世纪中,东方美学的研究与探讨,消费是主要的推动力量:从上个世纪末以日本为主要消费国家迄今为止,中国的消费力席卷全世界;这个以消费娱乐为轴心的流行趋势,带动了东方流行美学的研究显学。研究主题从偶像剧、漫画、动画等影像媒介到观光旅游、流行消费、空间文化、女性杂志、跨文化认同、后殖民欲望等展开了广泛的社会学的讨论。这种由东向西逆流的文化影响力是展览中通俗的力量,现实生活中点滴可见,由波普文化蔓延至今,与亚洲生活美学互相映照。

艺术家族群的创造是反映社会及自身关系的镜像,如何坚持自我的谬想天空得以与现实交融是实验也是体验;动漫美学成为流行文化的一支显学,不仅仅是可爱而已,在这次的展览中,以放轻松为轴,谬想的天空为心,选择让观者微笑及开启想象力的作品。

动漫的秘密,只有拥有童心的人,才能开启那扇门。

Taking it Easy-The Secret Garden of Animation's Wild Imagination

In the words of the great animator Hayao Miyazaki: "I believe that to create animation is to create a fictional world that can soothe the oppressed soul, encourage the dispirited will, reconcile chaotic emotions, as well as give the viewer a placid, lighthearted mood, and the introspective state of mind that follows purification." Miyazaki's manifesto can be used as a prefatory explanation as to why the Yinchuan Museum of Contemporary Art continues to organize the international animation exhibition in Yinchuan, now in its second iteration.

Since the 1980s, Japan's pop culture fever has continued to spread, from across Asia to its rise China, and in the study and exploration of Eastern aesthetics in the current century, consumption has been a driving force from the end of the last century, with Japan as a major consumer country, through the present, in which China's spending power is sweeping the world. This popular, central trend of consumerist entertainment has driven the practical study of Asian popular cultural aesthetics. Research topics-ranging from model operas to cartoons and animation, as well as other visual media; from sightseeing to popular consumption; from spatial culture to women's magazines; from cross-cultural identities to postcolonial desires-have opened up broad sociological discussions. This cultural influence that flows against the dominant current, from East to West, is the force of the popular in this exhibition and it can be seen in real life as well. From the sprawl of pop culture into the present day, everyday Asian life and aesthetics mutually reflect and illuminate one another.

The creation of the artist's community is a reflection of the relationship between the society and itself. To be able to hold open a space of wild imagination for the self that can be intermingled with reality is both an experiment and an experience. Taking in the aesthetics of animation becomes a practical study of popular culture. It is not merely cute; in this exhibition, 'taking it easy' is the crux, and wild imagination the heart of the matter, with works chosen to make the viewers smile and open their minds to the power of the imagination.

The secret of animation is that only those with a child's heart can open that door.
