蛇口画廊荣幸地宣布将于2022年1月8日推出由策展人王澈策划的艺术项目“家园地图”系列第一回——“郑江:好溪”,展出艺术家郑江的全新绘画作品,以及项目相关的影像、摄影和文字创作。
艺术作为显现家园的地图。
艺术如何使某个地域呈现出它的本来面目?艺术又如何将人类牵引至此?艺术的“家园”首先是一个精神空间,是对“家园”观念的恢复,通过确认一个人生命里的那个“神秘中心”,以超越现代社会的无根性,理解正在穿梭的体系。这里的“家园”,准确来说是一个个不同的地域,地域间的地质、地貌、气象、生态、劳作过程、生活片段、文化记忆等差异,共同形成了一个多元的面貌,也正是这种地域的多元性使越来越多艺术家获得思考和感受,并培植出自身独特的观点和艺术语言。
地图是世界的肖像,也是人类认知世界的有效方法之一。地图呈现并且再现了过去积累的思想和劳动,是一种自然的人文化,它不仅帮助我们构建世界,而且协助我们重构历史。但在现代主义“理性”的地图中,不断地追求直观性和易读性的极限,使空间中延展的地表变成了平面的投影,地域间的地质、地貌、气象、生态等差异趋向同一,最值得我们注意的是人的差异被不断消除。
“家园地图”系列项目展,将邀请四位不同地域的艺术家,试图在同质化的城市语境中,呈现多样的地域形态和不同的思维以及感官经验,同时表述地域对个人艺术创作的深切关联,在与故乡重新建立关联的形态中展示一个饱含各类情境且感性的地图。
委托创作的第一位艺术家郑江,出生于浙江缙云县五云镇一个溪流交错的村庄,村子依河而建,河流名为“好溪”。好溪属于山溪性河流,河道狭窄弯曲,暴雨一来水流猛涨且极为湍急,所以旧名“恶溪”,自古以来当地人与河流的共生和对河流发生不同形式、不同程度的互动,呈现出了从恶溪到好溪的转变,正是这种互动使人类在不同流域环境中形成了不同的文化,塑造了不同的文明形态。郑江此次以“好溪”为项目背景,将他的成长记忆与河流的关联,以及河流在人类繁衍生息过程中的流动指向,使项目在时间、地域、个人之间表达出更为绵延和立体的意味。

Serpentine Gallery is honored to announce that it will launch the first episode of the art project "Map of Homeland" series - "Zheng Jiang: Hao Creek", planned by curator Wang Che, on January 8, 2022. It will exhibit the recent new creation of artist Zheng Jiang, and simultaneously present the images, photos and text materials related to the project.
Art as a map that exhibits our homeland.
How does art unveil what a place truly looks like? How has art led humans here? “Homeland” in art is first a spiritual space that helps restore the concept of “homeland”, and, by identifying that “mysterious core” of one’s life, transcends the rootlessness of modern society so as to interpret the currently shuttling system. “Homeland” in this sense refers, specifically, to a variety of places different in geology, terrain feature, climate, ecology, production process, detail of life, cultural memory, etc., hence a tapestry that embodies the diversity of such a place which attracts more and more artists to think and feel, and that’s how they develop their own unique views and art languages.
Maps are the portrait of the world and one of the efficient ways for humankind to learn about the world. They present and represent the thoughts and efforts accumulated in the past, and, as a kind of culturalization of nature, they help us not only construct the world but also reorganize history. But modernist “rational” maps, in their ceaseless pursuit of the extremes of directness and legibility, have turned terrains actually spreading in space into two-dimensional projection, homogenizing the interregional differences in geology, terrain feature, climate, ecology and so on, and what’s most noteworthy in this is that the differences between people are being erased little by little.
The Map of Homeland Series Exhibition will invite four participant artists from different regions, in an attempt, in the homogeneous urban context, to show the diversity of regional patterns as well as different modes of thinking and sensory experiences, and to explore how one’s art can be deeply influenced by where he’s from. A map that covers various occasions and emotions will be the product of reconnection with the homeland.
The first artist on our commission list is Zheng Jiang, who was born in a village by a winding river called Hao Creek in Wuyun Town, Jinyun County, Zhejiang Province, China. A mountain stream in nature, Hao Creek, narrow and winding, gets torrential with rapidly rising water level in case of a storm, so it was called E Creek (E for evil while Hao for good) in the past. Since ancient times, the locals have been coexisting and interacting, in different forms and degrees, with the river, and the consequent evolvement of it from evil to good in the eyes of the locals reflects that it’s this kind of interaction that helps form different human cultures and civilizations along different rivers. In this project with “Hao Creek” as the background, Zheng Jiang works on the connection between his memory of growth and rivers and what rivers mean to the continuation of human society to give the project more far-reaching and concrete meaning in terms of time, region and individual.
