徐适的新意象作品在面对画面时，人的心灵会透过颜料、笔触进入到一个比看到的自然更广阔的世界，它同时也不是想象的世界，却是通过颜料、笔触等物质创造出的世界。因此，它是可视的，又是内心的，故而用“意象”一词来表述。评价意象艺术的高下，是看它表现出的内心的高下。于是，品味、境界等词汇，都可以派上用场。以境界感动人，以品味吸引人，大概是意象绘画着力要做的事情，因为已经摆脱了对对象描摹的束缚。
