《你看见海了吗 Back To Black NO。

《你看见海了吗 Back To Black NO。

Preface

Article/ Li Lei

In 2015, graduated with the master degree, Ying Jingjing officially became a professional artist, continuing her formerly established creating thought when still in school. In the next three years, she travelled around Berlin, New York, Shanghai, Nanjing and some other places, while created the most popular series, Ink·Crystal·Jing and You Want It Darker during which.

In the series of Ink·Crystal·Jing, the natural world in Ying's eyes was presented by abstract expression and the way ink blending. Diluted pigments flowing over the canvas, the desolate and sober images stirred people's heartstrings from time to time, and made magically changing climates together with roaring surges merge into the endless artistic fantasy. Her getting rid of the fetters of bald painting made the works form a semi-poetry and semi-painting context, eventually rose up to a poetic state of understanding the universe.

Meanwhile, the hard, sharp but pure crystal kept growing up in the art world of Ying gradually. You Want It Darker was an exploration of the eternal proposition of "growth-extinction-re-growth". She led the whispers in her works to a new consciousness of life and cultural identity. Crystals are the common symbols in the series, here the three properties of crystals, self adaptability, anisotropic and X-ray diffraction, refer to the free life, differences in growth and projection of oneself respectively. Crystals with regular or irregular shapes allowed her to express in multiple dimensions. The parallel or crossing lines indicated the impermanence or constant growth of everything. Ombre colours restored the original world and multidimensional crystal prism refracted the complex relationship between individuals, and between individuals and environment.

The symbol is a double-edged sword. For an artist, the establishment of her own symbol means the formation of her unique style, whereas followed the danger in artistic exploration. Clearly, Yingjing is still trying new possibilities during this period. The Peace and Yellow Rose and Blobs can be understood as the reconciliation between Ying and her emotions, the continuation of her language and the re-establishment of her personal style. The Blobs series did not refer to any specific objects. They could be considered as cells, stains or a few drops of water. Although no longer as hard as crystals, they reflect the diversity of both artist and the world, which embodied her deeply rooted gentleness and romanticism.

Is "constant creation and introspection" the most important essence of an artist? The installation and video in this exhibition provide possible answers. Have You Seen the Sea - Back To Black NO.1 is a piece of green marble sculpture weighing about one ton with ocean cross section alike wavy surface. The mild tone and tough material of which melted to show Ying's neuter temperament.

Have You Seen the Sea - Back To Black NO.2 is Ying's experimental video work. In a mirrored cube, withered wood turning vivid, crystal growing, rhythm and beats going, people screaming, the pristine, wild vibrant and mystic scene made people as if to see the vast land with exuberant burning vitality.

Have You Seen the Sea is the gentle and powerful question Ying Jingjing proposed to the audience, while she has already given the answer with her profound and imaginative work: BACK TO BLACK.
