The Hubei Museum of Art was built in 2007. In the same year, with the first cooperation and joint efforts with the Fine Arts Literature Art Center, the 2nd Documentary Exhibition of Fine Arts opened to the public as the premier exhibition of the museum. Since then, with its pursuit of original academic spirit and construction of exhibition brands, the Hubei Museum of Art has launched a series of domestically and internationally influential exhibition projects.
2017 marks the 10th year since the Hubei Museum of Art opened to the public. This 10 years has witnessed the birth and growth of a regional art museum, as well as the contemporary cultural imprint it has left on the city of Wuhan, together with the Fine Arts Literature Art Center, which has shared common cultural ideals and responsibilities.
The 4th Documentary Exhibition of Fine Arts is on schedule. It borrows its theme of "stress field" from the physical term and concept to show the alternative lives of artists, how they transform their attitudes and positions through multimedia and artistic language, and to what extent they accept and adapt to different changes and distortions. It also shows the energy of artists' individual creations in an abstract sense, so as to hint at the multiple checks and balances formed between the pressure, struggles and tensions, in global situation, thus forming a "visual stress field" within the exhibition.
By presenting exogenic actions, as well as the discussions about the diversified expressions of artists' individual induction forces and the various social issues involved, "stress field" perhaps also elicits various prompted reflections on the experienced attributes of the museum as a social public space, for example, "venue and the public", "space and works", "communication and acceptance", "historical memory and future construction" and so on.
Artists from 15 countries feature in the 4th Documentary Exhibition of Fine Arts. Compared with previous ones, this year's exhibition has a more forward-looking, broader arrangement and vision. No doubt, this will be an open dialogue for the collision and communication of multi-dimensional thoughts. We also hope that more and more public can approach the arts, participate in the dialogue, pay attention to the reality, and reflect on life through the art platform of the Hubei Museum of Art.
With the wise devotion of general curator Feng Boyi and his highly effective team, the cooperation of all the staff from the Hubei Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Literature Art Center, as well as the trust and support of every exhibited artist, the exhibition is held at the appointed time. Here, I'd like to extend my thanks for everyone's hard work.
The strategic cooperation between the Hubei Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Literature Art Center has been nourished by Wuhan's unique cultural charm and intergrable force. The Documentary Exhibition of Fine Arts will continue to move forward for a better future.
Director of Hubei Museum of Art, Ji Shaofeng
